This week was spent mostly on my personal game. So far I have a Title Screen, Instructions, and One level with movement and advanced collison detection. I hope I will continue to get lucky with it. I also started our Civic game's Powerpoint.

Week in Review 11/16/09 - 11/20/09

This week we continued to work on our games. So far I've tried about 4 different game types and can't get the code to work right. How stupidly frustrating..
Last day before Break. Have a good break everyone! See you Monday!!

Week in Review 11/9 - 11/13

Well this week was somewhat annoying. I've essentially been stuck in the same spot on my game, trying to design and mini game. The tutorials on the wiki are just not helpful. They give you the code without any explanation. We are novices at flash so we really need step by step instructons. Honestly, I'm getting pretty fed up with it constantly doing that, as well as some of my classmates. If something is not done to remedy the situation, we may just all around give up. That seems kind of extreme but I'm not going to get frustrated at something that is explained to me poorly.

Civic Game -Blog Questions

1. What is the game topic? -Our game deals with some of the Amendments
2. How does your game relate to Civics? -It teaches about the Amendments
3. Describe your game in 150 words. - Our game will consist of; the player will be asked questions relating to civics. A correct answer will allow them to continue and a incorrect answer will cause a game over. In between each question will be a mini-game that also relates to civics. The in-between of the slides will consist of sounds and music. We hope to have movie clips of some kind. We also hope to have things to more exciting, as a fun civic is hard to make. Custom Cursors, Custom Backgrounds, and other custom items are what we hope to add. We will add other things as needed. Scene 1 will be the introduction slide, scene 2 will be a question, and scene 3 will be a mini game. This sequence will be repeated numerous times until we feel as though we have reached a point where the player has learned what we had wish for them to learn.
4. Describe how the player will learn about Civics? -In our game the player learn about civics and the government through a variety of means. We will have questions that ask about different parts of the law system. Amendments, Civil Rights, etc... Each one will try to allow the player to gain some knowledge. In all honesty, having the means to try to get the player to gain knowledge is kind of hit and miss. We can try to make it as interesting as possible, with sounds, music, and mini games. But overall it comes down to the fact that if the person doesn't want to learn anything, they won't. But as I stated before, we will try to make things as fun and entertaining as possible. We may add questions or other gaming parts that relate to other parts of the government, but as of now, of sole concern is the amendments and parts relating to the law system.
5. Where does your game fit into the Civics's Framework? - Teaches about the Amendments.
6. Our game teaches about about one of the parts/ideals of government. The Amendments and the base system of our goverment is a very important part of our country.

Civic Course - Game/Feeling

It was kinda hard to find a game to use. Honestly, I don't really care for Civics. No offense, but thats just how a Naive Teenager feels. I think we can make out game work and it being entertaing too. Can't give up! hehe.

Week in Review 10/19 - 10/23

This was a good week. Almost all of us have mastered the button element and the code! We also had a visit from the people that allowed us to have the program and all the tools. The people from Globaloria seemed really nice! Hehe, I had to restart my game again to get it more organized, but with such a long time limit, I'm not worried. Overall, pretty good. Yay!

Adding Animation - Update the Blog

1. I think the coolest thing about Adding Animation is the fact that we can make anything transformation we want to happen. Its really cool to be able to do that.
2. An animation I admire would be from my favorite Anime, Sailor Moon. They did an amazing job animating the transformations into a fluid and believable experience.
3.

"Your Games" - Project

Team Name: Aluminum Fighters

Members: Alex Bennett and Ethan Langer

3 Facts I didn't know
1. That the 7th & 8th were passed on the exact SAME day and month
2. They have the ability to Repeal any of the Admendments, if it deems needed.
3. They have the ability to add to any or create a new one. (Takes a long to for them to process.(

Week In Review 9/28 - 10/2

This week was mostly about the paper prototype. We had to design our games on paper and record them to show what we were planning to do. It was quite enjoyable. We made a lot of monsters and we ended up only using like 3! They were such awseome monsters too. Hehe!

Most Important - Code

Although it wasn't discussed in depth, the code seems to be the most important. Most of the other aspects have some leeway and allow you to play around. The code however, has to be perfect right down to a tee. It's really aggravating!

9/20 - 9/25 Mulitmedia Progress

Well, this week was pretty insane. Almost EVERY day, we had trouble with the code. It seems to be incredibly finicky. It's has to go in a certain order, with certain requirements, and its also case sensitive. Honestly, it would be much better to have a lot of leeway with this. Considering this is our first experience with the program. It would also be nice if the Wiki wasn't so Vague!

9/11/09 - Civic Games Reviews

  1. American Symbols Game: Simple enough, nothing really stands out. If nothing is memorable, then its hard to take something away from it. 3/5
  2. Bill of Rights Match Game: You gain more out of it, but you need a pretty detalied knowledge of the Bill of Rights to really grasp the concept. 3/5
  3. Geography America: Good way to learn the states! 4/5
  4. Redistricting Game: Complicated but somewhat enjoyable 3/5
  5. Branches of Goverment: Simple but honestly, kinda boring. 2/5
  6. There should be a Law: Pretty good, helps you remember understand how Congress works at least a little bit more. 4/5
  7. Pick 12: Good detail, but over did it much? 3/5
  8. Play the News: A mess of a game, may be fixable. If they would elaborate on details a litte bit more. 1/5
  9. Bump the Birds: Not bad, I enjoyed the RPG aspect. A general knowledge of how election's work would be a good idea. 4/5

Favorite Game Genres / Wish to Make

My two favorite gaming genres would have to be Survival and Role Playing Games. I would love to make one of each.

Most Diffucult - Video

I found the hardest part to be posting a video that doesn't contain copyright infringement as well as other aspects. Making your own video required a lot more effort than I would have imagined. Yay!

Great Flash Information.

for some useful information!
